Malaysia Airports today launched a new initiative aimed to champion Malaysian labels and entrepreneurs. The airport operator will be leveraging on its strategic role to provide Proudly Malaysian products and Malaysian talents the platform and channels to promote their offerings to an international audience.
Called #ProudlyMalaysian, the Campaign will be Malaysia Airports’ commercial division’s key focus for the long term. The Campaign was launched officially today in conjunction with the nation’s 59th Merdeka and 53rd Malaysia Day celebrations.
Malaysia Airports’ Senior General Manager, Commercial Services, Mohammad Nazli Abdul Aziz said, “Airports are often the first and last destination for visitors and Malaysians coming in and leaving the country. As the gatekeeper of these key entry and exit points, Malaysia Airports is well positioned to champion all-things Malaysia.”

“Within KLIA and klia2, we have a variety of brands and outlets that are Malaysians or Malaysian-owned. Some are established names locally and internationally. Even as we celebrate these well-known home-grown labels, let us not forget that there are also up and coming local names that deserve our attention and support. Many of them design and produce fabulous and uniquely Malaysian products. It is our objective to give these deserving Malaysian names the recognition they deserve.
“We want to come alongside these dynamic Malaysians, help to promote and nurture them so that they can go out and shout that they are proudly Malaysian and we can be proud of them because they are Malaysians,” added Nazli.
Under the #ProudlyMalaysian Campaign, Malaysia Airports will provide Malaysian entrepreneurs and social-preneurs the platform and opportunity to bring their products to market in the international setting of its airports. The airport operator will also offer enterprising Malaysians a platform for ideas and business exchange to further equip them for the challenges ahead.
Nazli added, “Going forward, we want to encourage Malaysian retailers at the airports to offer specially-packaged ‘#ProudlyMalaysian’ products at their outlets so that visitors can buy and appreciate Malaysian products with ease. We want Malaysian products to be easily identifiable and proudly displayed to heighten awareness and instill pride.”
To celebrate the launch, Malaysia Airports has also initiated an online #ProudlyMalaysian contest. Participants are encouraged to take photo at the Proudly Malaysian photo booths located at the Main Terminal Buildings of KLIA and klia2, hashtag #ProudlyMalaysian and upload via Twitter and/or Instagram with a caption in 140-characters or less ‘#ProudlyMalaysian because ...’
Participants will receive discounted e-vouchers and stand the opportunity to win customized #ProudlyMalaysian prizes. Fifty-nine (59) prizes will be given away throughout the duration of the campaign to commemorate 59 years of independence.
The celebration will also see Malaysia Airports giving away 59 cash vouchers worth RM59 each to 59 lucky visitors and Malaysians during the launch, on 31 August and on 16 September.
