Kidiotics Wins Astro Battleground 2015 Faris Claims Solo Champion Title

Astro Battleground, the largest TV street dance competition in Asia, concluded its 2015 edition with a trail-blazing Grand Final on 4th July 2015 at Sunway Pyramid Ice Rink. The youngest team in the competition, Kidiotics was crowned as Champion of Astro Battleground 2015, edging Death Notz in the final group battle. The long-running Astro’s flagship Chinese programme also witnessed the youngest winner in the show’s nine year history, as Faris Azim Abd Karim from Selangor mesmerised the crowd and judges on his way to clinch the solo championship.

Kidiotics and Death Notz, together with BeastZ performed their finest and slickest dance moves through four rounds of competition in their epic dance battle to win the Top 2 spots to proceed to the final round. It was Death Notz that took the lead in the first four rounds, garnering three votes from the judges, compared to Kidiotics’ one vote, while BeastZ failed to collect any vote, resulting in the crew’s elimination. In the final SOS (switch or steal) round, each top two group have to choose one contestant from the eliminated team to join their crew for the Top 2 Group Battle. Angel joined Death Notz while Kidiotics picked Patrick. Against earlier prediction, Kidiotics performed magnificently in the final round with impressive moves and spirited choreography, impressing the judges to be crowned as Group Champion of Astro Battleground 2015.

The drama continues with the one-on-one battle among Kidiotics crews for the solo championship, and it was a tough match between Siong, the youngest contestant at 15 years of age, and Faris, the sole Malay crew. By mastering the rhythm and choreography, Faris won the solo championship despite not feeling well and accidentally hurting his mouth while performing one of the dance routine during the solo battle. The impressive manner of Faris’ victory is significant, particularly as he had performed for six rounds successively while fasting at the same time. Met after the show following a brief rest, the 17-year-old freestyler admitted he never thought of becoming the solo champion.

“I thought Siong would be the champion as he has been leading since the beginning of the solo battle.
But I told myself not to give up. I want to keep fighting until the end, and I actually made it,” Faris said in jubilation.

After the show, Kidiotics leader, Federenzz said, “We are proud of Farid, who despite suffering from asthma and not feeling well after so many rounds of solo battle, still fight until the end. He totally deserved the title of solo champion.”

Co-hosted by beauty pageant-turned-emcee Trisha Kuck and home-grown dancer Dennis Yin, Astro Battleground 2015 Grand Final features a prominent panel of judges, comprising internationally renowned dance gurus – Tai Chi (Japan), Funky Lia (Korea), Chun Hsiang (Taiwan), Yiu (Hong Kong) and Vince (The Philippines).
